The Creative Entrepreneur Daily domingo, 1 de junio de 2014 Ron Lehocky, King of our Hearts 2.bp.blogspot/-9MRrJv0Umb4/U4t-lHXuppI/AAAAAAAACho/NH5GGi-VmTQ/s1600/Ron.jpg In his famous song, Robbie Williams praises the angels among us. This celebration of creative entrepreneurship could only start in the best possible way: by praising one of them. And such a unique one to cherish. Ronald Lehocky grew up in Gary, Indiana, at a time when the world was diving deep into a post-world war era. Life wasnt easy in the late forties and fifties. So when a young Ron started to feel he would some day be a doctor, he didnt hesitate to work in the steel mills to earn money that would help afford later tuition in college and medical school. He graduated in 1969 and, since then, as a pediatrician, he became more and more involved in the cause of helping families and children confronting special health challenges. Ten years ago, the KIDS Center for Pediatric Therapies, where Ron serves as a member of the Board, organized its annual fundraising fashion show. Ron had an idea, so simple, a one-time effort, to supplement the funding: he would make hearts in Polymer Clay (a wonderful artists material that had been around for some time then, and which he had been using for a few years to create beautiful, wearable art pieces and objects) and sell them for ten dollars each. ...Well, it turned out to be more than a one-time effort... Ten years on, Rons immense heart has driven his creative spirit and unfathomable energy into creating more than 26.000 polymer clay hearts, and counting. All of them, one-of-a-kind, incredibly beautiful, collectors pieces. In any possible, imaginable polymer clay technique. In his endeavor to make a difference by helping others, he has taken every class, travelled wherever needed, shared his time and loving advice with everyone along the way. Always working. Helping and inspiring thousands with his perennial smile and vital attitude. His effort hasnt run unnoticed. But all achievements, all distinctions, prizes and recognition he has been awarded along these years, havent moved but one hair out of his lovely mustache. What moves a person like this? Put in his own words: I approach life with a positive outlook and a sense of humor. As a pediatrician I am guided by this philosophy: “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the size of the house I lived in or the kind of car I drove… but that the world may be different because I was important to the life of a child.” There is no one recipe for being a perfect parent. My recommendation is to do the best with what God gave you (that goes not only for the child but for yourself). More than anything a child needs to feel loved, respected, appreciated and supported to thrive. We take good note, dear Ron. We love you. Thank you for making our world a better place. For changing us all for the better.
