The Current will air not one, but two specials on dementia May 13 and 15. An estimated 750,000 Canadians are living with Alzheimers and other forms of dementia. That number is expected to almost double to 1.4 million by 2031. Coming up Tuesday ... A special edition of The Current on dementia... From diagnosis to life in a care facility, Anna Maria Tremonti brings you stories of Canadians living with the disease and the people who love and care for them. Well find out whats being done to cut down on drug use and to make patients lives more meaningful in the final years. And well explore what the latest research tells us about the as-yet incurable disease ... and what might be done to slow or even stop its progress. Then on Thursday ... We want to hear from you. Are you facing a diagnosis of dementia yourself? Are you caring for someone with the disease? We open our phone lines for a special cross-country, call-in edition of The Current. We want to hear your experiences, your struggles... and what you think needs to be done to prepare Canada for the looming dementia epidemic. Please go to cbc.ca/thecurrent/ for more information. This is CBC Radio One. The Current airs weekdays at 8:30 am. Review is weekdays at 8:00 pm (there would be no call-in in the evening).
