The Damien Echols produced movie “West of Memphis” will be - TopicsExpress

The Damien Echols produced movie “West of Memphis” will be presented at the United Nations today (Thursday, June 27th) as an example of why nations of the world should abolish the death penalty. In addition, Echols will be a part of a panel along with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and others on Friday. The topic of the discussion is “A Global Panel on Moving away from the death penalty - Wrongful Convictions.” In the linked press release, Echols is called a “victim of wrongful conviction.” Nothing could be farther from the truth. He was convicted by the unanimous vote of a jury. That jury’s finding was upheld by the Arkansas Supreme Court. Then, he pled guilty. Damien Echols is not a “victim” and his conviction was not “wrongful.” If it was, he should not have pled guilty. Even with the guilty plea, he’s had nearly two years and virtually unlimited resources to find the “real killer” and get the exoneration he seeks. He has completely failed at that task. Why? Because there is NO evidence anyone committed the crime but Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley. When is someone, anyone, going to end this charade and prevent this convicted triple killer from garnering fame, sympathy, and profit for a crime that all evidence still indicates he committed? If you agree that Damien Echols should not be put forward as a “victim of wrongful conviction” to a worldwide audience, you can send your concerns to the following email addresses: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected]
