The Day of Ashura is on the tenth day of Muharram in the Islamic - TopicsExpress

The Day of Ashura is on the tenth day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar. This day is commemorated by Sunni Muslims as the day on which the Israelites were freed from the Pharaoh of Egypt. According to Sunni Muslim tradition, Ibn Abbas narrates that Muhammad (peace be upon him) came to Madina and saw the Jews fasting on the tenth day of Muharram. He asked, “What is this?” They said, “This is a good day, this is the day when Allah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy . In order to distinguish from the Jewish good practice and to show more closeness to Musa A.S (who was the prophet of their time) than the latter, the Prophet (S.A.W) has recommended to fast one additional day including the 10th of Muharram in the following year. Our beloved Prophet (S.A.W) sadly left the world before the next Muharram of the following year but as his followers we need to observe at least two days of fasting although he did not observe two days himself. It is very appalling that a great majority of Muslims around the world ignorantly relate the 2 days or 3 days of fasting to the event of Hassan and Husayn Ibn ALI (R.A). Despite the fact that the 2 events happened simultaneously, we have to be clear about the true cause of the fasting stated by our beloved Prophet (S.A.W), otherwise it may cause us to pay a hectic price. That is why it is of utmost importance to study Islamic Studies so as to learn and observe the truth about our religion. I am not better than you, perhaps worst. May ALLAH gives us all the opportunity to embrace the truth. BARAK ALLAH FEEKOUM
