The Defensive Pistol Course is a challenging course taught by a select group of NRA ADVANCECD PISTOL INSTRUCTORS. This course is not for beginners and provides ADVANCED pistol training for students who have successfully completed the NRA Basic Pistol class or are competitive shooters. The course goal is to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude required to carry and use a concealed handgun ethically, responsibly, and with confidence. There is no written quiz; however, only those students who successfully complete a timed course of fire will be awarded the course completion certificate. Topics covered will include basic principles of concealment, mental awareness, developing a defensive mindset for personal protection, understanding the effects of extreme stress and learning techniques for avoiding confrontations. Practical exercises include safe gun handling when presenting the gun from concealment and reholstering, reloading and clearing malfunctions under timed stress, determining your optimum balance between speed and accuracy and much more. Required equipment includes a defensive caliber pistol (.38 sp or larger) appropriate for concealed carry, strong side holster, at least 3 magazines or speed-loaders, and at least 2 mag holders or speed-loader pouches for reloading. You will need a MINIMUM of 200 rounds of factory ammo. The timed qualification requires 100% accuracy and requires shooting from 3, 5, 7, and 10 yards. All shooting will be performed from concealment. Class will start promptly at 8:00 am and we should finish by 5:00 pm. Please try to arrive a few minutes early to accommodate paperwork prior to class. Cost is $120. Please bring a lunch as we will not have time to leave the range during our lunch break. Dress comfortably with appropriate cover garments. A baseball style cap, safety glasses and hearing protection (electronic recommended) are required. Wear loose comfortable clothing and preferably a top that buttons at the neck. (Hot brass has been known to find its way into loose or scoop neck tops. This is not a good thing with a loaded weapon in your hand!) Dress in layers to allow for temperature changes through the day. Bring rain-gear if the weather is questionable. The class will go on rain or shine… This class will be held at the Ripon Rifle and Pistol Club outdoor range, located at Co Hwy FF (Old Berlin Rd) 1 mile NW of Ripon. A map and more information and registration forms can be found on the Club Website ripongunclub, "event calendar"for July 28th, Sunday.
