The Department of Modern Languages is pleased to announce a series of weekly talks on What Is Happening in France? beginning this coming week. The first talk, to be held this Wednesday, January 14, 3:15-4:15 pm in KH D1054D, will present an overview on the changing demographics of France and important French ideas about religion, ethnicity, and culture, as embodied in French social customs, laws, and history. Please see the attached flyer. Future talks will look in greater detail at French Muslims, the French concept of freedom of the press, the importance of cartoons in French society, the rise of the extreme-right in politics, and other issues. We hope you will be able to join us at any or all of these talks; each topic will be announced in advance.
