The Department of Parks and Wildlife wishes to advise that the City of Albany Gap Road, off Frenchman Bay Road, will be closed from 24 November 2014 to 30 June 2015. The Gap Road leads to Cable Beach, The Gap and Natural Bridge within Torndirrup National Park. These sites will be closed for safety reasons during the construction of new lookouts, paths and information. All other Parks and Wildlife sites within Torndirrup National Park will remain open. The Department of Parks and Wildlife is in the process of upgrading infrastructure at the Gap & Natural Bridge to construct world class lookouts at a world class site. Site closures are necessary to allow the contractor to safely undertake the contract and deliver a stunning new set of lookouts for the South Coast. The site, being on the edge of a granite drop-off into the southern ocean, is subject to dangerous weather during winter including high winds, driving rain and large waves, which precludes construction during the winter months for safety reasons. The inconvenience of short term closures will allow for long term gains for the wider community, with the development of a showpiece tourism attraction.
