The Deterioration of Muslim Character The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “When your women will become disobedient, your young men will commit great sins, and you will give up Jihad; What will then be your condition?” The Companions (radi Allahu anhum) asked, “Ya Rasulullah, will such happen?” He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Yes, by One in whose Hand is my life, a more serious thing than that will happen.” The Companions (radi Allahu anhum) asked, “What is that serious thing?” He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “When you will not enjoin good and forbid evil; What will then be your condition?” The Companions (radi Allahu anhum) asked, “Ya Rasulullah, will such happen?” He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Yes, by One in whose Hand is my life, a more serious thing than that will happen.” The Companions (radi Allahu anhum) asked, “What is that serious thing?” He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “When you will take the good deeds as evil, and evil deeds as good; What will then be your condition?” The Companions (radi Allahu anhum) asked, “Ya Rasulullah, will such happen?” He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Yes, by One in whose Hand is my life, a more serious thing than that will happen.” The Companions (radi Allahu anhum) asked, “What is that serious thing?” He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “When you will be ordered to do evil things, and prohibited from doing good deeds; What will then be your condition?” The Companions (radi Allahu anhum) asked, “Ya Rasulullah, will such happen?” He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Yes, by One in whose Hand is my life, a more serious thing than that will happen.” The Companions (radi Allahu anhum) asked, “What is that serious thing?” He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Allah will say: ‘I take oath by myself that I will create such disasters and calamities for them, in which (even) those who are patient will be puzzled or perplexed.’” [Ihya Ulum ud-Deen]
