The Dickinsons Reach Calendar for the Years 2015 ~~~~~~~~ 2026 and 2037 We are all Dickinsons Reach Community, the assembled community of people that Bill gathered during his life. On the first anniversary of our friend’s passing, we honor him by continuing one of his traditions, the annual calendar, and with this calendar we want to celebrate Bill. Created with the artistic eye of Michael Sacca, the 2015 calendar will be full of photos and quotes that will keep Bill with you all year. Proceeds from the calendar will go to support the land and buildings at Dickinsons Reach, to preserve this place for future visitors and inspiration. Much has happened since Bill’s death. We fulfilled his wishes for how and where he wanted to be buried and we are working to fulfill his hopes for how his land, buildings and tools will be used. The larger and more important questions about the meaning of Bill’s life remain at the forefront for each of us and we encourage you to be in touch as you consider your own response to Bill’s remarkable life. While mourning his death and coming to under‐ stand the real meaning of his life and how it endures in our own lives, each of us can reveal the importance of Bill’s values: a life that seeks out direct experience, is drawn to beauty and simplicity, creates rather than critiques, and encourages others. Some of the Bill‐inspired endeavors going on now: Peter Forbes and Helen Whybrow were working on a book with Bill when he died. They completed the book this year, and it will be published by Chelsea Green Publishing Company this coming January. Please consider spreading the word about Bill’s extraordinary life by ordering A Man Apart at your local bookstore. Last year Bill was also working on designing a yurt with Josh and Melanie Wehrwein. Mike Iacona took up this collaboration in Bill’s place, and this past summer and fall he led an inspired group of people to create a beautiful concentric yurt in Sedgwick, Maine. As well as leading yurt‐building workshops, Mike has also taken over the yurt plans, and is updating and reprinting some of them. Contact Mike at 207 Meadow Sky Drive, Guilford, VT 05301 if you want plans or a yurt! Dan Neumeyer has reproduced A Traveling Museum of Eskimo Culture, a book Bill published in 1971 describing his work with Eskimo children. Dan was moved by the power and clarity of Billʹs vision as expressed in this book. Bill shared with Eskimo children the beauty of their culture by assembling a museum of Eskimo artifacts and bringing it to their villages. He saw wisdom inherent in tradition and believed that we will need all resources ‐ modern and ancient ‐ in order to thrive now and in the future. This book wonderfully illustrates Bills philosophy, intent and method in working with traditional cultures. It is available through Blurb You may have noticed that there is no “favorite books” list in this calendar letter ‐ but there is a master list under way! Dorn and Sarah Cox are working on cataloging all the books in Bill’s library. Folks can browse and keep up with their progress at: https://librarything/catalog/Dickinsons_Reach
