The Durham Public Schools Board of Education on Thursday - TopicsExpress

The Durham Public Schools Board of Education on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution that asks state lawmakers to repeal a law requiring public schools to be given letter grades ranging from A to F based on student achievement. The approval came on a 7-0 vote after the board did some minor tweaking to the resolution to better reflect its sentiments about letter grades for schools, which are due sometime in February. So, instead of asking lawmakers to delay the issuance of letter grades for schools as the resolution originally stated, the board agreed to ask that the practice of grading schools be discontinued all together. That change was suggested by school board member Natalie Beyer who said the grading scheme, modeled after one in Florida, is an attempt by critics to dismantle public schools. ... heraldsun/news/localnews/x761899257/Board-to-seek-state-repeal-of-school-grading-law
