The Duster --------------- More images at Shoot at Sight. Elephants are so full of activity! Initially, they will be quite nervous of our presence, and are reputed to charge at safari vehicles. We spotted this herd when they were bathing in the water and they all ran out on our arrival. For a couple of minutes they observed us and once they were comfortable with our presence they got back to business. This particular individual is mud-bathing where they pick up mud from the ground and throw it on their skin. Elephants do this as the mud barrier keeps their skin free of insects. They are most probable to do it after a bath as their skin is moist and the mud sticks on for a longer time. Natures own way of skin conditioning
