The EU Cosmetics Directive came into force yesterday. ALL suppliers/manufacturers of cosmetics products need to be registered to its portal. The regulations are designed to protect the consumer and ensure that all products are registered/safety assessed and manufacturers keep up to date records. This is no easy task and requires professionalism, commitment and dedication, particularly from small suppliers such as myself. The Guild of Soap Craft and Toiletry Makers is an organisation which ensures that its members adhere to strict guidelines and operate legally with in the new legislative framework. When buying soaps, bath bombs, cosmetics etc from craft fairs and home producers, check whether they are a member of the guild, membership is free providing suppliers meet the criteria. If they are not, probably best to steer clear as membership is an excellent indicator of a professional, ethical company. gcstm.co.uk
