The EWS (Enduro World Series) ran yesterday in our area, and by all accounts from locals, out of towner amature racers and the top pros contesting the series -IT WAS SAVAGE! The transition stages were not easy climbs, they were all steep, dry and loose and all under the hot sun. The transition times were extended before race day but some racers were still having a hard time making their designated stage start times. The race stages were rugged. Stages 2 and 4 were run on a couple of Whistlers most gnar-burl trails that were physically and mentally demanding. Stage 1 and 3 were run on trails that proved to be much harder as a race then they are to just ride. Stage 5 was the classic Top of the World (from Whistlers Peak) to the GLC which, like last year, proved to be dramatic final stage. Stage 5 is long, especially after 4 hot climbs and 4 race stages that left you pretty crushed! A steel hard tail may not have been the best weapon of choice for the hardest stop on the EWS calendar, however there were at least four racers out there on hard tails with only legs and steel tubes for rear suspension. Chromags own Sean Dinwoody and Julian Hine contested the old man (40+) category on their trusty Chromag 29rs and placed respectably and ahead of many Spaceship Bikes. There was a report and a sighting of a 26 inch Chromag Stylus captained by Cameron Argyle-Robinson in the senior men 19-29 category as well as a Titanium On-One in the mix. Hats off to all finishers, it was a big hard day - Friday Ride style.
