The Entertainment business is an odd landscape to navigate but I - TopicsExpress

The Entertainment business is an odd landscape to navigate but I think if you are going to be in it, in any capacity, you must remember it is a business. This means you MUST research every person you talk to about your projects and even your ideas & plans. Guess what? People lie, cheat, steal, & arent very nice about it. If someone says they work for a certain company, check them out & the company they claim to be associated with. Do they have a Social Media presence? Open accounts, and NOT Locked? If they are locked that means they are hiding something, plus if you are in entertainment & arent taking advantage of FREE advertising, you arent all that smart..... Does their company or even the one they claim to work for as an intern or janitor have a Social Media presence? (More than a couple of hundred Likes & followers). The projects they claim to have produced, is there any drama associated with them behind the scenes? Did they just produce these projects via a Kickstarter or other crowd sourcing campaigns? See, the truth is tricky, especially these days. You can get producer credit simply by donating money to a project & no one is going to question that. But YOU have to remember that your work is YOURS, it is your life, it is your creation. Giving it away freely to any old person, no matter how charming or good looking, or what buzz words they say, is NOT smart. We research our auto mechanics, plumbers, doctors (or at least I hope we do) and this is the same thing. Be smart, be cautious, have fun but know who you are dealing with at all times. It is very easy to check on people these days and anything that looks suspicious should deter you from giving up your creations so easily.
