The European Forum Alpbach is an annual event that takes place in August in the Tyrolean village of Alpbach, Austria. Politicians, academics, students, and decision makers from all areas come together to discuss and brainstorm new ideas and solutions to European and global problems. More than 3,000 people from over 50 countries accept the invitation to participate in the European Forum Alpbach each year. Participation is open to all interested parties. Up to 14 seminars are devoted to various scientific disciplines. This year Piotr Magnuszewski (representing IIASA),Peter Todd (Indiana University) and Reinhard Mechler (IIASA) introduce seminar “12 Decisions Under Uncertainty”. Piotr opened the seminar with two-minute game “Trees and Loggers” for 700 people. Trees and Loggers - ask people born before 25th any month - get up - you are trees - those who sit - you are forest managers - forest managers: tap those trees around you that you want to cut - trees that are tapped: sit (you do not become managers!) - earthquake comes - trees born after 20th: sit down - you can make dramatic movements or sounds - lets look around, what happened? - what will happen next? ( you will find out in the next post) More about the seminary: alpbach.org/en/vortrag/12-decisions-under-uncertainty/
