The European bison, Eurasian beaver and White-tailed eagle have been highlighted as species that have made a remarkable comeback in Europe over the past 50 years according to a first ever in-depth report released yesterday by Rewilding Europe. European bison went extinct in the wild in the early 20th century. Nowadays, the number of free and semi-free roaming animals reach 3000 individuals (Anual European Bison Conference, Sept. 2013). However, the species remains at risk from its low genetic diversity and lack of connectivity between populations. Thus, this is only a first successful step but there is still a lot to do!!
