The Evidence That North Korea Hacked Sony Is Flimsy: First of all, we have to say that attribution in network security breaches is difficult. Assertions about who is behind any cyber-attack should be treated with a hefty dose of skepticism. We do know skilled hackers use proxy machines and false IP addresses to cover their tracks or plant false clues inside malwares they generally distribute to throw investigators off their trail. When hackers are identified and apprehended, it’s generally because theyve made school boy errors or because an accomplice got arrested and turned informant. In the world of Cyberspace, attribution is extremely difficult, if not impossible, even with the great might of the intelligence gathering world. Even computer giants Dell concede that no one is really safe from these so called hacktivists, and if you’re in the network security industry you’ll fully appreciate the varying permutations involved and why it’s so difficult to point accusing fingers at anyone specifically.
