The FAA got it right! They have taken the position that MH17 was a hostile act, a national security issue not a safety issue and they are not putting investigator(s) in harms way. There is nothing to investigate from the standpoint of aircraft safety thus the NTSB provides no expertise in determining the good guys versus the bad guys when it comes to an intentional act. It is ridiculous that the acting Chairman did not separate politics from aviation safety when making the decision to send an investigator to the Ukraine. The Board apparently has lost sight of its mission statement. I wish they would dedicate the monetary and personnel resources to conducting more thorough and methodical aircraft accidents and be proactive in promoting aviation safety rather than getting involved in national security issues!
