The Fafa Album review - Talking Heads - Remain in Light - TopicsExpress

The Fafa Album review - Talking Heads - Remain in Light (1980) Remain in light is THE record of the 80s. Talking Heads fourth album and the one that really made history. Born as an instrumental jam using Afrobeat music as a template, this album goes deep into sonic experimentation thanks to the wonderful work of producer Brian Eno. The intention of the band here was to merge rock music with standard african beats. This record involved a lot of extra percussionist. It is one of the first record to make use of samples, borrowing the technique from early hip-hop music. Lyrics are strange and unchoesive borrowing from the stream-of-conosciousness technique. They do not make any sense at all. The final result was a record who combined aspects of post-punk,new wave, funk and rock. The first side contains more funky songs (Born Under Punches must be of the greatest opening tracks of all time) while the B side contains more moody songs. The Overload, the final track, was conceptualized while imagining how would joy division play a post-punk song from the reviews(the band never actually heard them). In conclusion, this is sonic wankery at its finest. My Final Score : 9.5/10 Tracks to have on your ipod: Born Under Punches, The Great Curve, Once in a Lifetime, Listening Wind
