The First Thanksgiving between the new world settlers and the - TopicsExpress

The First Thanksgiving between the new world settlers and the Native Americans should really have been termed the Only Thanksgiving. It is generally agreed that the Native Americans were only invited to the harvest because the Pilgrims felt guilty — they knew that, without the Native Americans help they would have all died before their first fall in the colonies. But after that — once the Pilgrims got the hang of New World crops and game — there were no additional meals of community or gratitude. Instead, 1621 marked the beginning of wave after wave of Europeans who would settle in America, and engage in oppression and near annihilation of the Native Americans through both diseases and warfare. Bon appetit!
