The Food and Drug Administration the Centers and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have determined the most likely source of a multi-state hepatitis A virus outbreak is a common shipment of pomegranate seeds from Turkey used in the Townsend Farms and Harris Teeter Organic Antioxidant Blend. The seeds were also used by Scenic Fruit Company to make its Woodstock Frozen Organic Pomegranate Kernels. These products have been voluntarily recalled, according to IDPH. So far, 11 Illinois counties have received Scenic Fruit Company product, including Adams, Champaign, Cook, DuPage, Jackson, Lake, Madison, Mclean, Peoria, Sangamon and St. Clair. No illnesses have been linked to this product to date, the health department said. As of June 27, the CDC confirmed 127 people got sick with Hepatitis A after eating Townsend Farms Organic Antioxidant Blend in eight states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wisconsin. news-gazette/news/local/2013-07-02/pomegranate-seeds-subject-recall.html
