The GCC Water Technology Program prepares students for a career in water treatment and water distribution. Program courses provide the training necessary for employment at a municipal water district or city water department. Upon completion of program courses, students will have gained the knowledge necessary to successfully pass the State of California Water Operator Certification exams. The evening courses below have openings: ENV T 120 - WATER TREATMENT OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE I Description: Environmental Technology 120 provides an entry level understanding of drinking water treatment. Topics covered include history of water treatment, responsibilities of the plant operator, reasons for treating water, source water management, water treatment facilities, treatment process and technologies, disinfection and plant maintenance. This course provides the background into the importance of treating water, its functionality, past and present technology and the future of drinking water. ENV T 130 - WATER DISTRIBUTION OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE Description: Environmental Technology 130 provides an understanding of drinking water distribution systems operation and maintenance. Topics covered include design criteria, storage, pumping, flow control, construction methods, disinfection, control of water quality in a water distribution system, federal and state drinking water regulations, maintenance and administration of a water distribution system. Field trips and/or a semester project may be required. This course meets the initial educational requirements for a distribution operator certification exam.
