The GREAT FLOOD of December, 1955 ~ Joseph Cote wanted to learn - TopicsExpress

The GREAT FLOOD of December, 1955 ~ Joseph Cote wanted to learn more about this flood, so heres my story: I was ten years old, and we had relatives coming for Christmas in December, 1955 from the Bay Area. Unfortunately, they chose to travel along the Marsh Creek Road and then Highway 4 along the Delta levees. Once they got to Roberts Island, the highway was too flooded, and in fact their car got stuck in water. BUT NOT TO WORRY!! When my father and uncle went to collect our relatives after they had called us using a PAY PHONE (Remember THOSE?) in a roadside tavern not far from where their car stalled, my uncle and father rescued them by using the boat they had towed along behind their truck! My father and uncle used the boat to get from where Highway 4 was closed to a point near the roadside tavern where our relatives waited! Long-story-short: Everyone got to Stockton and dried-out in time for Christmas Eve! Happy Ending! RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED to Memories of Stockton! ~ Even the bad memories of The Great Flood of December, 1955!
