The Garfinkle-Minard Foundation made a CGI Commitment to Action in 2005 to provide seed funding for Yarum Jen — a social enterprise in sustainable aquaculture — to address diminished food protein intake, over-exploitation of caught fish resources, and lack of economic opportunity in Senegal. By 2010, the commitment had benefited more than 300 families by building fish farming infrastructure in the Mbao village, supporting trainings for villagers to share basic fish farming techniques, and expanding the model to approximately 11 surrounding villages.
