The General Secretary of Bollore Investment Company, Mr. Joseph Lambert, has denied all allegations made against his company with regards the London Mining Contract for the transportation of Iron Ore from Marampa to Thofeyim. Mr. Lambert was speaking in a press conference held on Wednesday 31st July 2013 at the Harry Yansaneh Hall in Freetown where he said Bollore was awarded a London Mining contract in January 2011 to transport Iron Ore from Marampa to its export port at Thofeyim.According to him, they were awarded the contract based on their experience in managing and operating transportation of goods and services of other companies and institutions in the country. He said the allegation that local people were not employed by his company to execute the contract was false, adding that all infrastructural works within the ambit of the contract were done by locals. Mr. Lambert said 52 drivers were trained to professional standards and certified at a cost of $1,500.00 per driver, adding that 85% of them were indigenes of Lunsar and its surrounding villages. The General Secretary said the company underpaying sub-contractors was not Bollore’s fault but that of London Mining’s management who reduced haulage rate from $6.5 to $4.4 per metric ton, which according to him is in line with international standard. This he went on was a unanimous agreement by all sub-contractors before they signed the contract.
