The Good Word For Today: REBUKE/REPROOF August 4, 2013 Rebuke: To scold sharply, reprimand. A strong statement of disapproval; sharp scolding. HEADLINE: ASS SPEAKS, MAN’S LIFE SAVED! Consider this, an ass (donkey) saw the judging angel of the Lord ready to slay Balaam and turned to save Balaam’s life. Balaam struck his ass three times with a stick, and then the ass spoke to him. I figure, if God can use an ass to speak to Balaam, maybe He could use me to speak to someone too! Numbers 22:32, 33 “And the angel of the Lord said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me: And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.” The most difficult situation any of us face in our relationships is like the situation in which someone finds the need to tell us< “You’re wrong!” I think those are the two words we least like to hear, and three are like them, “I told you so!” More than we want to be “right” we want others to think we’re right. When they point out that we are “wrong”, too often we don’t want to hear it. If we are to be better people, and the people who please the Lord by doing things right, we must be willing to hear the message from whatever instrument God chooses to use to deliver it. Hebrews 12:6 “For whom the Lord loveth, He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.” 2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word, be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” Proverbs 17:10 “A reproof entereth more into a wise man than a hundred stripes into a fool.” Proverbs 10:17 “He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.” Proverbs 29:15, 17 “The rod and reproof givewisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.” Proverbs 15:32 “He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth instruction.” Ephesians 5:11 “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”
