The Gospel is not a call to repentance as one would define by an attempt to modify and make amendment of our ways, to make restitution for past sins, or to promise to do better in the future. It is a call to drop all hope in that modification of behavior in favor of the only performance that will ever please God and totally relying on that. It is never any outward obedience, which is all the Jews had and still have. Salvation is an inward work of God. Given only to those who need it. All others need not apply.
