The Grand Rapids African American Health Institute (GRAAHI) is encouraging the community to “move and groove” through the streets of Grand Rapids on Saturday, August 16 for its 7th Annual Movin’ & Groovin’ Rhythm Run 5K. The race will be held at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, 800 Fuller Avenue SE, with activities beginning at 8 a.m. and the race promptly following at 8:30 a.m. The Rhythm Run aims to raise awareness about the benefits of making healthy personal choices. Participants will also learn about healthy living and getting fit – all while enjoying the beautiful Michigan summer. In addition to the race, the event also offers a Kid’s Fun Run, refreshments, entertainment, games and more. “The goal of the Rhythm Run is to raise awareness about the benefits of making healthy life choices for everyone,” says Shannon Wilson, executive director of the Grand Rapids African American Health Institute. “As a health organization, this event is a fun way to connect with the audiences we are trying to better serve within our community.” The race is open to anyone who wishes to participate. A $15 registration fee applies to participants who register prior to July 15th. Registration is $20 after this date, and late registrants (weekend of August 15-16) will pay an additional $5. Awards will be given to individuals, businesses and churches with the highest number of 5K run/walk participants.
