The Greatest Generation of Americans The veterans of World War - TopicsExpress

The Greatest Generation of Americans The veterans of World War II were the greatest generation of Americans. These were men and women of strength, of character, of faith, who were both patriots and warriors. This generation born of the great depression who left their schools, their farms, their careers, their friends, and their families to defend our land and our way of life, to take back our national pride and avenge the blood of our brothers taken on that infamous December 7th in Pearl Harbor. Our enemies mistook their patience and their goodness for weakness only to awaken a sleeping giant. They underestimated the grit of these Americans that had been forged from living through tough times. These patriots ran to the aid of their country that had been bruised but not defeated. These volunteer warriors met the enemy on the beaches of Normandy, the sands of Iwo Jima, the skies of Germany, the seas off Midway, the jungles of the Philippines or wherever the challenge to our way of life called them to serve and fight. These soldiers, airmen, marines, navy, coast guard and merchant marines fought, served and sacrificed that we might have the freedom and opportunities we enjoy today. All veterans deserve our honor, our respect, and our gratitude, but let us never forget the generation of World War II veterans, their accomplishments, their sacrifices, their love of country, their love of freedom, or their examples of courage and patriotism. Generations of Americans yet to be born will study their history and marvel at their accomplishments. Those of us who have had the privilege of calling one of these men or women “father or mother, sister or brother, husband, wife or simply friend” have been truly blessed to have known and loved this greatest generation of Americans. We will be eternally grateful for all they have given for our Country, our Freedom and our Future. Thank you Veterans for your sacrifice and service to our Great Country!!
