The Green Organic Initiative for Youth Employment The Green Organic Initiative for Youth Employments is a community based private initiative conceived by Green Agro packaging and processing Nepal , Greenshop Nepal a premier outlets of green goods and Green Organic Farm Nepal is carried out since the past four years with the following focus aimed at promoting green organic agro- production , consumtion and trade to create a sustainable youth employments within the nation. Fucus Creating more jobs, rivitalising rural green economics and encouraging younger, more optimist people into green agricultire. Encouraging green business innovation. Capacity building of farmers Capacity building of SMEs , IBOs and community groups. Facilitation for market access. Establishment of green organic farms, Organic dairy farms and organic livestock and animal husbandry. Contract farming of coffee, stevia, jewel orchid, Rosemery, almond, ganoderma and shitake mushroom Relevance Due to its geografical, climatic and comparative advantages , Nepal has tremendous potential for producing high quality organic foods, tea , coffee , fruits , spices, high value medicinal herbs and off – season vegetables which are in demand within the local and global markets, but lacks of sufficient competence in green organic farming and trade for taping lucrative regional and global agro- markets. The farming and the agro trade community therefore must adopt organic production practices to achieve organic certification, establish strong, stable and symbiotic relationship with farmers entreprenuers, SMEs, IBOs with in-depth understanding of green organnic agricultural processes, create business links with sustainable local and international agro- entrepreneurs and threreby be able to sell or export their agri produces, which inturn will help to raise income levels of the complete chain of agro- entreprenuers. The initiative actions focus on strengthening technical and business capacities of farmers, SMEs, IBOs and policy makere towards facilitating strong co-operation amongst the stakeholders to create sustainable green organic agro- entrreprenuerships, and thereby contributing to create new green business and employments opportunities for the youth. Backgrond scenario Excessive use of harmful chemical agro-inputs by majority of farmers has rendered most agro- produce unsafe for consumption, polluted the environments, degraded the natural soil structure and rendered the agro- produce unsuitable for exports. The farmers, consumers and the general public are barely concious of the health risks and environmental hazards caused due to continued and excessive use of chemical agro-inputs and pesticides. The organic farmers and the society in general are caught up in predicaments where lack of awareness of the benefits of organic agriculture, high cost of certification, and small or isolated local markets results in a vicious cycle preventing the realization of the great promise and opportunity that Nepal possesses in becoming an important exporter of organic agro- products. Due to the lack of reliable and sustained market demand or supports for organic produce, self-motivated organic farmers or entreprenuers are forced to compete with inorganic(chemical) agro-produces, and sell their produces at unremunerative prices. The absence of organized agro-entreprenuership, or awareness of the organic agro- trade business potential and appropriate policies and subsidies which encourage agro-entreprenuership, has resulted missed green business opportunities each day. There seems to insufficient awareness, institutional support, or the will amongst policymakers to seriously formulate initiaves for encouraging organic farming and trade. On the contrary, governments institutions, concerned authorities or policymakers seem to have barely heeded repeated and urgents calls by scientists and experts to discourage or prevents the use of harmful chemicals. Target groups and final benefiaries Targets groups and the final beneficiaries of the initiative will be the youth entreprenuers consumers, farmers, community groups, SMEs, IBOs, policy makers, organic agro- entreprenuers, health and hospitality sectors, organic farming experts and consultants, banks and bankers, commertial intermediaries. organic agro inputs and products suppliers. freight forwarders, shiping and trasportation sectors, the natural environmental and the biodiversity of yhe the region.
