The Hanover County Sheriffs Office responded to an criminal incident around noon today in the area of Hanover High School and Oak Knoll Middle School. Lt. Chris R. Whitley, speaking on behalf of Col. David R. Hines, sheriff, said, the schools were contacted as a precaution, which is our normal practice whenever an incident occurs in proximity to a school(s). He also said that it was his understanding that Hanover County Public Schools temporarily placed schools in that corridor on shelter in place (no one allowed in and no one allowed out) until the situation was deemed safe. The schools have since resumed normal operations, Whitley added.
