The Hatred of God by Travis Quertermous When we think of the God of the Bible, I am sure the first thing most people think of His love. On the other hand, we don’t often think of hatred being a quality of God. Yet in Proverbs 6:16-19, we read: 16 These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren. Sounds like the evening news doesn’t it? Here are seven things a loving God hates! What does it mean to say that God hates these things? It means they are repulsive to Him, they move Him to righteous anger, and that those who practice or condone these sins will pay the price one day. We should all hate the same things our Creator hates in the same way He does. We should oppose these awful things and those who promote them. Friends, it is often said that God hates the sin, but loves the sinner, and that is very true. Even if you’ve been guilty of things the Lord hates, you can still be forgiven through Jesus Christ.
