The Hawaii Farm to School and School Garden Hui, formed in 2010 and coordinated by the Kohala Center to strengthen Hawaiis statewide Farm to School and School Garden movement, gathered for a legislative breakfast at the Capitol on January 9. Senator Ruderman was honored to sponsor the event. Attendees were treated to a locally sourced breakfast , as well as presentations by stakeholders in the Farm to School network. Senator Ruderman supports legislative efforts in this regard, which include a state-level Farm to School Program and coordinator position in the DoE and DoA, as well as revising the procurement code in support of local food purchasing. Highlights of the event were presentations by students from Iolani School and Waikiki Elementary, who shared with the audience their enthusiasm for the School Garden program and love of fresh vegetables from their school garden.
