The Hespeler Town Hall & Fire Station has reached an important milestone in its history; the building is celebrating its 100 year anniversary this year. Constructed in 1914, it served as the second seat of municipal government in Hespeler. It was home to the Mayor’s Office, Town Clerk’s Office, Tax Dep’t, Planning & Board of Works Dep’t, Health & Welfare, Dep’t, Hydro Dep’t & Volunteer Fire Dep’t on its main floor; firefighter’s quarters & Town Council Chambers the second floor, and Hespeler Police Dep’t in the basement. The building, built for $35,750, was designed by architect John Evans in the Beau Arts style and was designated in 1983 as a City of Cambridge Heritage Landmark. It is now home to the Hespeler Heritage Centre. ..... The building is also home to the longest continually operated Fire Station in Cambridge, Waterloo Region and possibly the province. Once the home of the Hespeler Volunteer Fire Dep`t, it now acts as Cambridge Fire Station 2, continuing a century of service to the Hespeler community. .... a special tribute is being planned for Saturday August 23rd during the A Day & A Night in the Village - Art Meets Music Festival.
