The Hiawatha ACES are pleased to announce an initiative to revitalize Hiawatha’s Arrow Twin Theater. As you probably know our hometown theater is in danger of closing its doors due to the high cost of digital conversion. For the past four months, in an effort to keep our theater, the ACES have explored an option that does not require raising our local taxes yet offers our community a state-of-the-art movie going experience. Through our research we have discovered that the cost of restoring and upgrading the existing downtown location is surprisingly reasonable at an estimated $235,000.00 and we feel this is the most feasible way of retaining a theater in our community. In support of our efforts an anonymous group of donors has a pending contract for the purchase of the existing theater building. We have now turned our attention to beginning a campaign to raise funds for the necessary upgrades. We plan to complete improvements in phases starting with the modernization of projectors, screens, 3D capability, and surround sound. Then we will progress into enhancing amenities such as new seating, drapery, upholstery, as well as renovating the lobby and bathrooms.
