The Hinchinbrook Local Disaster Management Group have met this afternoon and is now at lean forward, which means preparation activities are underway and monitoring is taking place. Preparations are in place should a flood event occur in the Hinchinbrook Shire as a result of Tropical Cyclone Ita. Residents should monitor the media, listen for any further announcements over the weekend and take precautionary actions now in the event that a flood occurs. Hinchinbrook Local Disaster Management Chair Mayor Rodger Bow said, “The LDMG will monitor the situation over the weekend and give updates as they comes to hand. Hinchinbrook Shire residents should listen for any further announcements over the weekend. We are not expecting any flooding tonight. Once Tropical Cyclone Ita crosses the coast and begins moving south we can expect rains in our catchment area to move south over Saturday afternoon and into Sunday.” Listen to radio stations and keep updated with the Hinchinbrook Disaster Information page on Facebook. “Right now we are taking actions and coordinating our efforts but our thoughts are with our northern neighbours and their immediate safety and wellbeing given the impact area north of Cairns around Cooktown,” said Mayor Bow.
