The Holy Spirit has come to enable us to think Gods thoughts. Our natural thinking is self-centered; the divine program calls for self-giving. We think of ourselves; God thinks of others. So something must take place that will bring mans thoughts into line with Gods thoughts. The coming of the Spirit was intended to accomplish this. The Holy Spirit came to enable us to share Gods emotions. One of Gods emotions is love. It is not in man to yearn for the lost, to sacrifice strength and time, to weep and pray for the fallen. Only Gods Spirit can put that love in us. The Spirit has come to enable us to pray Gods prayers, to pray in Gods strength for the things God wants us to receive. We do not know what to ask for, and we have no ability to present ourselves to God. So the Spirit helps our weaknesses. Here is at least one very important aspect of the glossolalia (speaking in tongues). Jude exhorts us to build ourselves up in the most holy faith praying in the Holy Ghost. What a blessed privilege is ours to reach beyond human understanding and, praying in the Holy Ghost, to enter into the holiest of holies, in a living partnership with God in intercession. Finally, the Holy Spirit came to enable us to do Gods work. Gods method was announced as Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the lord of hosts.
