The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, and the Honourable Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, Q.C., Associate Minister of National Defence and Member of Parliament for Delta-Richmond East, today issued the following statement on the occasion of Father’s Day: “On June 16 Canadians recognize fathers across the country for the immense contributions they make daily to their families and our nation. On this important day we would like to give special thanks to fathers who serve or have served with the Canadian Armed Forces. We would also like to recognize the husbands and partners of Canadian Armed Forces personnel and the fathers of our soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen. Fathers who serve in the Canadian Armed Forces are not only the protectors of their family but also the protectors of our great nation and its interests. These men demonstrate dedication and perseverance as they defend Canada and North America and as they contribute to international peace and security. For Canadian Armed Forces members protecting our national interests often means making personal sacrifices. From coast to coast there are fathers missing out on time with their families in order to work long hours, participate in exercises and deploy on humanitarian and training missions far from home. Despite the challenging nature of their jobs, these fathers demonstrate a commitment to balancing work and home life. Fathers within the Canadian Armed Forces family are heroes who deserve recognition for all that they do. On this day it is important to celebrate fathers and all that they do. We sincerely wish all fathers at home and around the world a Happy Father’s Day.” Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, Associate Minister of National Defence
