The Horse and Groom Doncaster 6th Anniversary 17.08.14 We traveled up to the venue quite early to ensure we got a seat as we knew this going ot be a packer. The venue is actually a pub on a typical English high street in Doncaster. The event runs monthly and it is lovingly nurtured by two prolific UK collectors known as the Pincher twins. Their collections are much respected by many its vast and of the utmost quality so you are guaranteed a great event just with those two in the mix add to that the two special guests being John Manship and Andy Dyson and you have a recipe for an “Al la carte”Soul meal . I would imagine from a players perspective this has to of the utmost pleasure and the time played must vanish in no time because it’s such an enjoyment. The event is an Alldayer which starts at midday and carries on through to 8pm officially. It’s a FREE event and that in itself is quite astonishing as the sounds that will grace your air space whilst you are there cost 10000’s to purchase. What is particularly pleasing is that in-between the many expensive items played a cheapie is thrown into the mix causing your mind to go into melt down mode, thinking my god I know I have this record ? it sounds so good ? do I really have this ? Sometimes it’s a B side or maybe a different version of one that you know well. You see because it’s actually getting to the “public” domain instead of your bedroom or lounge you are completely thrown forgetting track names of tunes that you know you know but can’t name because you are enjoying the journey so much , its sheer ecstasy. It is Soul Utopia ! The pub was packed to the rafters with appreciative admirers of a good tune plus the fact that it’s the daytime it opens the door to a slower easier tempo that then manifests into silk like threads in the air, it was truly one of the best UK events I have ever been to and I would recommend anyone that likes this sort of vibe to pay it a visit. We have had a sensational year in terms of events covered this year and I honestly thought maybe we had seen the best of the year making new journeys and meeting new people abroad and enjoying the 100 club again. How lovely it was to be knocked side-ways by those over the Pennines, they are a very shy bunch now’t flashy about them , not liking to hang trophys on the top shelf to prevent you holding them for just three minutes , my god do they know how to throw a good soul do. Its Unpretentious and honest. I loved watching the haggling of the record sales , Yorkshire men are good at getting a bargain and they know how to knock that price down. We also enjoyed the company of close friends Mick and Lucy who loved the event too as did everyone else. We ended the evening in the local Indian restaurant and came out to the sound sstill blasting down the high street…. My thought were I hope I never grow up or grow tired of hearing these sounds . I will try and get some play lists together for you to go moist at , there were many I mean where do you get the chance to hear the two Robert Tanners back to back ? I personally came back with this tune which appealed to my something different and eclectic bone https://youtube/watch?v=lLOD5PaKMtE
