The Hot Pink Christmas Tree When I was in the eighth grade my - TopicsExpress

The Hot Pink Christmas Tree When I was in the eighth grade my family had moved from Texas back to my hometown of Winnfield, Louisiana. I loved the move and all my new friends. But my mom had more to deal with than just that huge move. She had to have surgery, my grandfather had to have a section of his carotid artery replaced, and my sweet mother was exhausted by Christmas. But not me, the ever so hyper- fourteen year old.......who daydreamed of the perfect world she thought possible just because your hormonal teenage mind told you were entitled to your dreams. We had always had the most traditional and picture perfect Christamases. Never occurred to me that year would be any different, until I came bouncing in after school humming carols and saw that hot pink, rather small Christmas tree decorated and sitting on a table. Not traditional! Not big! Not familiar in any way! Thus the drama started. I complained bitterly about the color, and everything that was wrong about that hideous tree. My mother was sad, disappointed by my reaction, but also resolved that the hot pink tree would be staying for that Christmas. For days I pouted, I flounced on the furniture in indignation to get my mothers attention. I moped and complained. That hot pink tree had become the battleground between the self centered interests of myself and my mothers way of trying to provide Christmas in our home while caring for the sick, and carrying on with her commitments of church, family, and work. That was not my happiest Christmas! It wasnt until years later that I learned anything at all about that experience. Sometimes what I want has to be balanced with what is the best interest of others. Christmas is about more than the decorations, the gifts, the parties, the glitter and the lights. It is about worship of what is true and eternal............the birth of our Savior! It Is enjoying your family, friends, and reaching out to those who are in need of love, warm clothing, food, or just kind words of encouragement. My needs are already met for this Christmas. I have one request. Dear God have my mother step forward in Heaven and tell her : Your daughter has grown up, she understands the hot pink tree. Forgive her foolishness. She loves you, she misses you. She said please tell you to wear hot pink dancing shoes this Christmas and dance and sing joyfully around the fields of Heaven. Sing praises to our King! Whether by accident or divine intervention, each of my grand daughters has a pink Christmas tree in each of their bedrooms. They enjoy those trees, so feminine. And me, I Like them too!
