The Hour Aug 31, 2014: Looking Back - 25 years ago Sonny’s of Westport earned a 15th straight trip to the Class ‘A’ Men’s Slowpitch Softball National Tournament after finishing runner-up in the New England Regional. The top two teams qualify for the nationals in Midland, Texas. Bob ‘Chief’ Shirley led Sonny’s with a .682 batting average in their seven regional games, while Barry Schueler hit .667, Gary Lindgren .636, Gary McLeod .619, and Pete McCoy rounded out the top five at .615. Roy Richardson hit five homers, while Schueler belted three.
