The ICBL strongly condemns the attack this week on staff of its member organization in Afghanistan, the Mine Detection Center (MDC), which left eight deminers dead and three injured. The MDC team was attacked on Monday 10 June while undertaking clearance operations in Logar Province. In a week time at the Maputo Review Conference of the Mine Ban Treaty, we are hoping to hear a strong commitment from Afghanistan to complete clearance of landmines as soon as possible and by doing so to put an end to all these tragedies.
