The IRS has warned against telephone scammers targeting vulnerable citizens as the 2015 IRS filing season begins. The IRS has offered 5 ways to identify a scammer who: “Demands immediate payment...without first having mailed you a bill.” “Demands you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.” “Requires you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card.” “Asks for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.” “Threatens to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.” If you believe you may have been the target of a scam, the IRS asks that you call 1-800-366-4484 or visit tigta.gov to report the scam. goo.gl/ZE7KM1
