The Impaired Generous (the only life I gave away) I’ve been giving all my life everything to everyone. Haters, I gave them love. Lovers, I gave them lust - asking for anything back was never my style, but in a last sad spring when… in a metal room with one-too-many locks and keys, like the trembling little canary, fearful, I flew through, strange voices ushered me in. Cold hands made my bed, hard brushes combed away my skull, strong winds unclothed me, cruelly freezing my wings. Unwillingly, I breathed the suffocating clouds, counting backwards five, four, three… Swallowed captive by the tired ether watching from above the cold hands butchering me - one by one they scraped away all layers of my flesh, dissecting me like the lifeless frog on a dragging class of premed physiology, gutting me empty like the mouth of a grave… Inside the hungry womb a fainting candle I lit to mark the silent wake before the tearless funeral. The pale flame echoed through my body, unable to burn me whole, my ashes annoyed they’d have to wait some more… Days later I came to… lifeless, weak, on the gray metal tray, counting backwards ten, nine, eight… bloodless, unburied, barely breathing left for barely dead!
