"The Independent Investigations Office says one of the biggest challenges it faced when it started was police departments over-reporting cases. The police watchdog was called more than 230 times, but only 17 of those cases (7%) needed to be investigated. The IIO is only supposed to be called when an officer is involved in a case where someone has been seriously hurt or killed. ... “I think over-reporting is, in fact, much better than under-reporting,” she notes. “But very quickly on, within about six weeks, we were alerted to the fact that we needed to go back and revisit the criteria.” [says Kellie Kilpatrick of the IIO]" - News1130 QUESTION : Does British Columbia need an investigative body for incidents that do not result in death or serious bodily harm?
