The Institute for Veterans and Military Families would like to honor retired Army Captain James McCormick for his combat service in both Desert Storm and Iraq. He received two Purple Hearts in Iraq. He is also a recipient of the Bronze Star with a V. In 2012, McCormick received the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s ‘Citizens Service Before Self’ Award for his work in helping veterans find jobs after they depart from military service. McCormick is the owner of Raising Cane Farms in West Virginia. The farm grows bamboo and hires veterans to help combat veteran joblessness. James McCormick is currently working as the director of the West Virginia Veterans and Warriors to Agriculture project under the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. The program is the first in the country to promote veteran business ownership in the agricultural field. It has become a model for other states to follow. To learn more about James McCormick and his farm, please visit his website at raisingcanefarms. The Veterans and Warriors to Agriculture program can be found on social media. IVMF wants to highlight military members in your community as a thank you to our men and women in arms. Do you know someone who would like to be featured on our social media pages? Email [email protected] to nominate a veteran or a soldier for our weekly segment.
