The Israelite Apartheid Week is fast approaching and with great astonishment I have learnt that the university has removed this week from the university calendar, following last year’s controversy. A hullabaloo centred on what the universities view is on the Israeli–Palestinian conflict and what or who it chooses to endorse, it is to my surprise that amongst the many academic staff in the university, the university still failed to put together a stance on the matter. I am wholly disappointed with the university’s decision to dismiss or lope from engaging this issue. It saddens me to say that our university has opted to move away from a process of giving students a holistic educational experience, through critical engagement. I pose then, what is the primary function of higher education institutions, if it is not to engage the things that are most controversial and posing questions that people fear posing Anonymous
