The Israelites never saw a vehicle of any kind; there were no cars or airplanes back then. They were use to seeing ox and carts; there was no modern technology back then. There were only foot soldiers and they walked wherever they wanted to go. Even Jesus and His disciples walked wherever they went. Israelites were not accustom to seeing teams of horses hook to a chariot, until they were introduced to the horses in Egypt. It was an awesome sight for them to see a team of horses racing through the wind with their mane flapping and pulling a chariot. When the chariots of God arrived, there was no way for them to describe them. They had never seen anything like them before; the only things that they had seen flying were birds. When they tried to describe a vehicle of God, they had to relate it to a chariot, because thats all that they have seen before. Before we look at the spiritual horses of God (horses of fire, vehicles); that was used as transportation between heaven and earth. Lets go into the manuscripts of God; into the Hebrew teaching in Ezekiel for a description of Gods vehicles. The spiritual horses of God are in a different dimension and thats why we cant see them in our flesh bodies unless God permits. Lets look at Ezekiel 1 [3] The word of the LORD came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him. [4] And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire enfolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire. Lets look at two words in the Strongs Concordance. (1) The word colour used here is the Hebrew word ayin which literally or figuratively means eye, and is used here in the sense of to see or appeared as. (2) The word amber is chashmal and means polished spectrum metal or shiny polished bronze. You see Ezekiel has never seen an airplane, jet or spacecraft before and there were no telephones, electricity or TVs back then. All that he has seen were wagons pulled by horses or oxen. All that Ezekiel ever saw fly was birds with wings. So, he did a pretty good job of describing Gods spacecraft. He says, I looked up and I saw a whirlwind (circular motion; round spacecraft) coming in the clouds and it appeared as polished spectrum metal. Yes I said spacecraft, dont you think that if man can make a spacecraft that God has already made them a long time before and even more modern then ours of today. It is easier for us to understand today, because we have seen airplanes, jets and the space shuttle. Now we begin to see the vehicles of God; horses are not made up of metal and the chariots at this time were made of wood. So you see that these were the vehicles of God. [5] Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man. These are the Zoë or Zoon (living beings) also of Rev. Chapter 4 they are Cherubims, they had the appearance of a man. Do you see that there are 4 Living Beings, the 4 Zoon, present at the throne of God. John saw them in Rev. Chapter 4 and described them for us as looking like a Lion, a Calf, a Man, and an Eagle; these are exactly the same as the Standards, the flags, of the tribes of His people Israel. The standard of Judah is the lion, the standard of Reuben is a man, the standard of Ephraim is the bull, ox, and the standard of Dan is the eagle. They were protectors of the Throne of God. Whenever you have the Throne of God present you will also have the living creatures there to protect the Throne. Dont you know that Ezekiel was excited witnessing Gods Throne? [6] And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings. There was a group of them, Gods circular vehicles, like saucers. [7] And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calfs foot: and they sparkled like the color of burnished brass. Ezekiel is trying to describe the landing gear of these spacecraft. How hard it must have been for someone that has never seen a spacecraft. The tripod landing gear had straight legs with pads on the ends and they were burnished brass. The landing gear on these vehicles didnt have wheels because they did not need to roll down a runway to lift off, for they used a technology for propulsion that man hasnt discovered yet. We are keying in on the vehicles of God, the spiritual horses of God. Lets skip down to verse 14 [14] And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning. I think Ezekiel is doing a good job describing these vehicles considering that he has never seen one. We have seen a lot of aircrafts with flashing lights on them. [15] Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces. One went all the way down to the earth. Ezekiel calls these circular flying discs, wheels. I mean, what other terminology could he have used, hes only seen wheels on wagons. [16] The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the color of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel. Ezekiel describing what he sees, these wheels (vehicles) were like the brightness of the color of sapphire stone. We see that Gods vehicles were circular like saucers, because Ezekiel called them a wheel. They flew in formation and it look like the wheel was flying on its side. Ezekiel was use to seeing wheels standing straight up and rolling. [17] When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they turned not when they went. Ezekiel says these wheels are on there sides, not rolling like he thought they would. They didnt have a head like an oxen or donkey to turn. When they went right they just went right. How else could Ezekiel describe this very awesome site that he saw? [18] As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four. As for their outer surface, it was so high and full of windows round about all four vehicles. These windows are where he saw the spirits inside and every time these vehicles turned the spirits inside turned with it. [19] And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up. Naturally because the living spirits were inside these vehicles, so wherever the vehicles went they went also. [20] Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither was their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. Ezekiel saw the living spirits inside those wheels (vehicles) through the windows. [21] When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. Ezekiel was so amazed at these vehicles, you would be too, if you had never seen a spacecraft. [22] And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above. It was such an awesome experience to see these fly off. [23] And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies. And under the vault their wings were level, each with one pair touching the next Creature and one pair covering its body. (Moffat) [24] And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings. Ezekiel is describing the sound of the voice of God as it is describe in the book of Revelations. He is hearing the voice of God and seeing the vehicles letting down their landing gear when they stood. Only our generation of these end times can really understand it. Ezekiel calls the landing gear legs, arms or wings as in this verse. [25] And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings. He could hear the voice of God. Oh! How exciting to hear our Lord. [26] And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it. I saw an awesome throne with the brightness of a sapphire stone and our Heavenly Father setting upon it. Remember God said let us make man in our image. The purpose of the vehicles was to haul Gods Throne. This was the same type vehicles that the fallen angels used to come to the earth to get with flesh women in Gen. Chapter 6. There is nothing new under the sun; its just occasionally that there are things that are new to man. This would be an awesome thing to witness; what an honor that had to be for Ezekiel. [27] And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about. In Rev. Chapter 1 verses 15 & 16 you will see the description of the appearance of the Savior they are much the same. That Shechinah Glory, What an awesome experience that must have been. This was the appearance of the glory of the Lord. [28] As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake. The same appearance, as given in Rev. Chapter 4, of a rainbow with its beautiful colors round about the Throne of God. When Ezekiel realized he was in the presence of the Lord he fell upon his face and he heard the voice of God. You can begin to see why we are talking about the vehicles of God; when we are studying the horses of God. Lets look at 2 Kings 2 [11] And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. This was the time of Elijahs departing of this earth. Elijah was taken up in a whirlwind; in chariots of fire and horses of fire; the same description that Ezekiel give for Gods vehicles. It appeared as a whirlwind because it was circular and spinning, these vehicles of God. Do horses breathe fire? Of course not, these were the vehicles of God. Can a horse drawn chariot leave the earth? Of course not, these were the vehicles of God. This is the only way that these men of God could describe these vehicles, because they have only seen horse and chariots as means of transportation. Now we begin to see that there was no other way to describe these vehicles of God in their lifetime. Our most modern flying vehicles of today will not measure up to Gods vehicles. Elijah was taken up in one of these chariots of God and that chariot is better described in Ezekiel. In Genesis 5:24 Enoch was also taken away, by God and documented in Hebrews 11. So you see that there is no great mystery of Gods vehicles. It has been documented in Gods Word. With the modern technology that we have today we can understand these vehicles of God, better than these men of old could. To have the actual presence of God in person to these flesh men was an honor and an awesome experience. We will continue this study in the next lesson.
