The JOURNEY - Daniel 1:20 - Ten Xs Better - Whenever weve been sold on something and were convincing someone else that it works or its really good we say Its Ten Times Better! If someone talks about a certain food theyve tried and you begin to explain that if they add chocolate it would be Ten Times Better! LOL! After all anything is Ten Times Better with chocolate. Right? So Sandy says anyway. It was the opposite with these four young men. For ten days they chose to eat what has become know now as the Daniel Fast. Healthy eating with no meat, bread, sugars or anything processed; only fresh vegetables, fruits and nuts. For ten days Daniel was determined to go against the meals assigned by the king. You have to understand that if the king set the menu you ate what was on the menu. It wasnt a restaurant where you ordered what you wanted. The king had the best and most choice of all meats and prepared foods. Daniel and his three friends were determined to eat foods that set them apart from everyone else. Why was this important? Because many foreign kings had pagan gods they worshipped and it centered around food idols. Its ironic that they set themselves aside to do this for ten days and they were found to be ten times better. How would you like to be Ten Times Better than everyone else at work? Ten times better than anyone else on the team or in class? Ten times better looking? Hey, I need all the help I can get. Ten days of strict diet for ten times better results and favor. How could you turn that down? The fact is that the diet was only part of it. They werent just dieting, they were setting themselves apart for God. Could you do that? For ten days - no Krispy Kreme, Hershey Kisses, Starbucks, Lays Chips, rolls or Lucky Charms. For ten days only nuts, fruits, vegetables and water. The point is that if we are determined to live a life that honors God He causes others to take notice of us. He makes us Ten Times Better. It says that they were more wise and smarter than anyone else. When you make a commitment to set yourself apart for God, He sets you apart from the rest. Youre Ten Times Better because of His hand on your life. Dont settle for ordinary when you can live a Ten Times Better life.
