The Jaroso Fire update. This really sucks, for lack of a better word! Size 1,500 acres Fuels Involved Mixed conifer, heavy dead and down fuels with pockets of bug-killed trees and 1,300 acres of downed timber caused by a wind event six years ago. Significant Events Large group torching is being observed and the fire has spotted into the blowdown from 2006. The fire is making a push towards the ridge tops of Truchas Peak and Trailriders Wall. Currently, the column is lifting and building again... seeing significant downrange spotting - about 1/4 mile with a majority of the fire still flanking the blow down area. Estimating roughly at 1500 acres and more a accurate acreage will be available tomorrow after the evenings infrared mapping flight.
